Sanbolic Announces LaScala™
Disto - Allows Users to Manage SAN Storage Remotely
Watertown, MA., October 12, 2005
– Sanbolic, a developer of advanced
clustered file system and volume management software for networked
storage, today announced LaScala Disto. Sanbolic adds LaScala Disto
to its product line of clustered shared volume management software
and file system for shared storage solutions.
LaScala Disto is an add-on component to LaScala
Volume Manager. It enables customers to remotely manage the volume
structure for their entire SAN. It also provides volume and mount
point scalability on top of existing LUNs, and support for Windows
Volume Management (LDM) volumes.
LaScala Disto can be installed remotely on a laptop
or server accessing the SAN through an Ethernet network or VPN,
or locally on any server on the SAN. Administrators can use LaScala
Disto to log into any domain or workgroup on the network, and then
manage both volume structure and server access profiles to the storage
for all servers connected to the SAN. Administrators use an intuitive
WMI-based graphical interface to manage volumes.
LaScala Disto supports and manages all standard
LaScala volume management functionality for SAN volumes. Volumes,
volume sets, or stripe sets can be created, striped across multiple
storage devices to create a single storage pool, and expanded on
the fly with no IO interruption. Because LaScala was designed as
a SAN volume manager, it can efficiently aggregate the storage and
bandwidth of multiple controllers, and create host-mountable volumes
from a virtual LUN. LaScala Disto brings simplicity and user friendliness
to the SAN management by allowing users to provision volumes and
assign them to user accounts on the fly using native Windows security
(ACL). LaScala maintains consistent drive letter assignment across
the SAN, and supports both NTFS and Sanbolic’s Melio clustered
file system. The interface is intuitive to any Administrator familiar
with Windows, thus minimizing the learning curve.
Additional new features in LaScala Disto includes
support for volume and mount point scalability on top of existing
LUN’s. It also supports management of Windows Volume Management
(LDM) volumes so users can use a single user interface and volume
manager to manage their SAN attached-, direct attached-, and local
storage. Users can utilize LaScala Disto to configure volumes for
shared data application which use a clustered file system such as
Melio, as well as to manage their uniquely assigned non-shared application
volumes for Exchange, SQL and other single instance applications.
In addition, LaScala Volume Manager and LaScala Disto support FC,
iSCSI and SCSI connectivity, so that users can flexibly match connectivity
with cost and performance requirements.
LaScala Disto will be sold through selected distributors
and system integrators worldwide.
About LaScala
Volume Manager
LaScala is a host-based volume manager that simplifies management
and improves flexibility and reliability of shared storage environments.
Multiple hosts can simultaneously share access to and administer
storage volumes, and volumes can span multiple storage controllers.
LaScala permits centralized administration of per volume groups
based on native administration rights. Assignment of host access
to specific shared volumes is easily accomplished with native security
tools. The volume manager can apply multiple changes in volume structure
simultaneously, such as online volume creation, deletion, parameter
modification, resizing by adding additional storage, or adding new
hosts to a volume group.
