Envivio Increases MPEG-4
System Throughput and Simplifies Administration with Sanbolic's
Melio FS
High-Performance, Scalable MPEG-4
System Simplifies Storage Access, Improves Throughput By Allowing
Users to Share Same Files
IBC 2003, Amsterdam, The Netherlands,
September 12, 2003 – Envivio,
Inc., a leading provider of MPEG-4 broadcast and streaming solutions,
and Sanbolic, Inc., a developer of advanced software products and
solutions to address the infrastructure needs of the storage area
network (SAN/NAS), announced today an MPEG-4 system that provides
broadcasters with increased throughput, simplified administration,
greater reliability, and reduced costs. The system brings together
the Envivio family of industry-standard MPEG-4 solutions with the
Sanbolic Melio FS file system to enhance the high-performance needs
of the broadcast industry.
Envivio will be displaying this week its entire
suite of MPEG-4 broadcast solutions in Stand 4.261 at IBC 2003,
Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
The Envivio MPEG-4 system consists of 4Caster™
real-time encoders, 4Coder™ offline encoders, 4Sight™
streaming servers, and a 4Manager™ control system, along with
shared storage formatted with the Sanbolic Melio FS, at the headend.
The Melio FS shared file system allows multiple, simultaneous users
to access the same files with the high throughput needed by the
broadcast industry. The scalable system can consist of two 4Sight
systems to a server ‘farm’ that streams to tens of thousands
of users, with the same level of performance.
By using the open, standards-based Envivio MPEG-4
system, broadcasters gain a 50% improvement over conventional MPEG-2
systems; secure and scalable content distribution; reduced headend
costs and complexity; ability to encode and transcode into various
formats, including high definition (HD); and the ability to deliver
live programming to multiple set-top boxes.
Melio FS provides high-throughput due to optimized
random access to files, and avoiding asset replication. The scalability
on server and storage level gives a greater flexibility, while the
ease of administration and maintenance saves time and cost for system
operation.
“Sanbolic’s easy-to-install Melio
FS shared file system complements Envivio’s open standards
MPEG-4 headend system to give broadcasters the high-throughput,
end-to-end MPEG-4 broadcasting and distribution solution they need
to stay ahead of their competitors,” said Julien Signes, President
and CTO of Envivio. ”We are pleased to integrate Melio FS
as another component to our powerful family of MPEG-4 systems.”
“The combination of the Melio FS shared
file system and the Envivio MPEG-4 system adds new depth to the
file system concept in the broadcast industry,” said Momchil
Michailov, President and CEO, Sanbolic, Inc. “We are excited
to have a relationship with Envivio where we can add more value
to an already leading MPEG-4 broadcast and streaming product.”
