The Citrix Provisioning Server® and Citrix Presentation Server® can utilize Sanbolic software to provide a high availability solution, as multiple Citrix Servers can access a common image on the SAN

Sanbolic has worked closely with Citrix to develop the high availability feature for Citrix Provisioning Server used for desktop virtualization and server provisioning applications.
  
Citrix Provisioning Server (Citrix PVS®) offers IT Administrators the ability to deliver server and desktop workloads (operating systems, core applications and configuration information) on-demand via a centralized management platform, reduce total cost of ownership, and improve manageability and business agility.

Enabling the high availability feature ensures users have fault-tolerant access to Citrix PVS servers at all times. By storing the Citrix Provisioning Server configuration database, vDisks (virtual Disks) and target device write caches on shared LUNs formatted with Sanbolic Melio FS, multiple Citrix PVS servers can access these files concurrently. This allows I/O requests from multiple servers to be load balanced among multiple Citrix PVS servers. It also allows target devices to automatically re-establish connectivity (failover) to the vDisk containing their workload through another PVS server in the event that connectivity to the vDisk through an initial PVS server is lost unexpectedly, i.e. server hardware failure or loss of network connectivity.

Sanbolic Melio FS shared file system efficiently manages access to high availability storage required by multiple Citrix PVS servers. Sanbolic Melio FS removes the traditional one-to-one relationship that exists between a storage partition (LUN) on the SAN and a server, allowing multiple partitions for the PVS configuration database, vDisks and target device write caches on the SAN storage.

Sanbolic helps strengthen data security and isolation by enabling storage to be separated into separate volumes. Each volume can be managed for access only by pre-defined clients and servers, preventing access by unauthorized personnel. In the event one of these servers fails, an administrator can easily reassign access to the secure volume, guaranteeing high availability capabilities remain intact.
