Sanbolic Releases LaScala™
Volume Manager 1.1 LaScala™ Clustered Volume Manager Simplifies
SAN Management
Watertown, MA, October 25, 2004
– Sanbolic, a developer of advanced
clustered file systems for networked storage, today announced the
release of LaScala™ version 1.1, which adds mirroring and
centralized management to the transactional clustered volume manager.
LaScala™ is a host-based volume manager
that simplifies the management and improves the flexibility and
reliability of shared storage environments. Volumes can be created,
resized, assigned, and reassigned to servers dynamically. The new
version adds mirroring, including mirroring across volumes on heterogeneous
arrays. Version 1.1 also adds centralized management, hence any
server with administrative permissions can manage the volume structure.
Administrators can assign or reassign access to an entire storage
pool using LaScala™ from a centralized management screen using
native Windows security permissions.
LaScala™ volume manager works transparently
with NTFS, and supports shared access to volumes when used with
Melio FS™ clustered file system. LaScala™ can also manage
physical access to storage volumes for virtual servers.
Sanbolic has been working with LSI Logic on solutions
that leverage LSI Logic's host bus adapters (HBAs) and Sanbolic's
LaScala™ software, in order to simplify SAN management and
ease the migration for small to medium enterprises (SMEs) to SAN
storage.
"We're excited that Sanbolic chose to support
our FC adapters within the LaScala™ software infrastructure,
said Steve Looby, product manager, SAN adapters, LSI Logic. "It's
a win for Sanbolic's customers who use LaScala™ volume manager
, as they can now realize lower implementation costs by using it
with LSI Logic's enterprise class FC adapters."
“LaScala™ removes SAN complexity—often
a barrier to SME SAN adoption. LaScala™ reduces the need to
learn proprietary configuration tools and zoning utilities and allows
users to create a single LUN that then can be managed and assigned
to users on a volume basis. Storage array and switch configuration
can be set once, without needing to guess at the storage requirements
of each server,” said Momchil Michailov, CEO of Sanbolic.
LaScala™ is available now and from selected
distributors and system integrators worldwide. For a list of distributors,
