Using Melio Cluster File System with Virtual Server 2005 R2 to Enable Virtual Machine Migration and Availability
Webcast: Using Melio Cluster File System with Virtual Server 2005 R2 to Enable Virtual Machine
Migration and Availability (Level 300)
October 25, 2007. 11:30am PST - 1:00pm PST
Presented by: Momchil Michailov, CEO and Founder of Sanbolic & Tony Bailey Sr. Product Manager at Microsoft Melio cluster file system and SAN storage greatly increases the flexibility of Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2, enabling you to migrate applications across physical hosts in response to changes in load, or to maintain availability when hardware maintenance is required. Using Sanbolic software and SAN storage, all Virtual Hard Disk (.vhd) files and XML configuration files for Virtual Server 2005 R2 instances can reside on shared block storage and be available to multiple physical host servers. The shared access to the file allows machine state to be quickly migrated across servers. You simply have to save state for the Virtual Server 2005 instance on one machine, and restore it on a second machine. The virtual machines can also be clustered across physical hosts, and each machine can be independently failed over to another
host using Microsoft Server Clustering. If Microsoft
System Center Virtual Machine Manager is being
used, a Windows PowerShell script can be used to
manage migration, while of the .VHD files are
maintained on a single LUN.In this webcast, we
describe configuration requirements, demonstrate
virtual machine migration, and discuss customer
deployments of this architecture.
