Sanbolic Announces “Simple Information Lifecycle Manager”
Software- enables policy based management of data
Watertown , MA October 31, 2006 –Sanbolic, Inc., a leading developer of software to simplify and share SAN storage, today announced availability of Simple Information Lifecycle Manager (SILM).
SILM allows files or volumes to be migrated or copied from one volume to any other volume the server has access to. SILM’s policy management features allow administrators to selectively manage data based on customer definable security and access policies.
Sanbolic’s Melio file system and LaScala volume manager enable end users to aggregate multiple storage arrays into a centrally managed pool of storage and provide multiple Windows workstations or servers concurrent read and write access to data over Fibre Channel or iSCSI
connections. SILM is particularly effective as an ILM tool with the clustered file system allowing all servers access to all LUNs.
SILM’s universal connectivity support allows users to deploy it in a mixed storage environment and simultaneously use it across DAS (direct attached storage), NAS (network attached storage), SAN (storage area network) and removable media, as well as different interfaces such as FC, SCSI, iSCSI, SATA, PATA, and Solid State Disk. Thus users can utilize SILM not only for their Information lifecycle management but also for data migration needs and data back up. Users can automatically provision SILM to maintain rules of what kind of data resides on a specific type of storage, as well as define rules of data migration access profile.
“SILM is an effective economical utility for us to simplify our back-ups.” said Wil Graham, Systems Administrator / Special Projects with Productive Data Solutions (PDS). Wil works with SILM and has installations in a number of secure government locations, “We like its simplicity and use SILM to consolidate data onto a single LUN, from which it is backed up.” PDS, Inc. provides technical talent working in major markets throughout the United States.
Sanbolic software currently supports Microsoft Windows Server 2000, Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Vista, and Microsoft Windows Server 2003, including Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2. Sanbolic distributes its product solutions worldwide through a network of
distributors, OEMs, VARs and system integrators.
Sanbolic will demonstrate SILM as well as its clustered file system solutions on Microsoft Windows 2003 platforms in the Microsoft Pavilion (PPV1) Booth #8 at Storage Networking World in Orlando October 31- Nov 3.
