Sanbolic and XTFX/XTDATA
Showcase High Performance SAN Storage at Storage Expo in London
-- affordable HD SAN system and scalable
NAS head solution powered by Sanbolic’s file system and volume
manager
Watertown, MA, and London, UK October
12th 2004 – At the upcoming
Storage Expo exhibition (Olympia National Hall, London, UK 13th-14th
October, stand number 641), Sanbolic Inc., a leading developer and
manufacturer of storage area network (SAN) software for shared storage
solutions and London-based systems integrator and reseller XTDATA/XTFX
will be demonstrating an affordable HD SAN system and a scalable
NAS head solution powered by Sanbolic’s file system and volume
manager.
Designed specifically for broadcast and post production
industries, the HD SAN solution is capable of supporting an unlimited
number of simultaneous streams of uncompressed video, including
SD, HD, 2K and 4K. A totally modular solution, the HD SAN is built
to suit the needs and budgets of broadcasters and post-production
facilities of all sizes that are looking for a scalable, high-performance
yet affordable shared storage solution that can handle the highest
quality, full resolution HD as well as all lower video formats.
Already tried and tested by major broadcasters
in the US, the new solution will initially be resold by XTDATA/XTFX
with basic configuration prices starting at just €41,500 (GBP
30,000).
Featuring Sanbolic’s Melio FS ™ shared
file system and LaScala™, clustered volume management software,
the SAN solution showcased on the XTDATA/XTFX stand is comprised
of Adaptec high-performance disk systems, Cisco’s MDS9216
switch, and LSI’s and Qlogic’s host bus adapter. The
system’s performance can easily be increased by stripping
across multiple RAID controllers with LaScala. LaScala allows volumes
to be allocated to different users, and size of volumes can be changed
on the fly.
Visitors to the XTDATA/XTFX stand will also be
able to see a fully scalable NAS head solution. The NAS head connected
to the shared storage via the FC switch is running Windows Storage
Server 2003. It further distributes the data via the Ethernet switch
to other workstations. The NAS solution is scalable without replication
of data necessary. Additional NAS heads can be connected to the
storage via a FC switch or directly to the storage and data can
be shared as the storage is formatted with Sanbolic’s Melio
FS clustered file system.
