windows server platform solutions
Sanbolic’s Melio clustered file system and LaScala clustered volume manager enable one or multiple storage arrays to be aggregated into a single pool of storage that can be centrally configured and assigned using familiar look and feel of Microsoft Windows tools and interfaces. Multiple servers or workstations can have concurrent shared read and write access to data using iSCSI or Fibre Channel connections. The resulting storage architecture is easily administered, and can be dynamically expanded and reassigned, while supporting shared data access to improve application availability and/or scalability. Selected solutions which enhance the capability of the Window Server system are described below.
o Server 2003 R2
Easily manage and dynamically expand or reassign a large shared SAN storage pool. Allows central or remote provisioning and management of SAN storage for large server installations and simplifies LUN management for iSCSI boot configurations.

o Windows Storage Server 2003 R2
Multiple Windows storage can be clustered into a shared file system on external SAN storage and present the same data to clients using CIFS or NFS. This architecture provides dynamic scalability of both storage capacity and I/O performance, while retaining the familiar Windows management environment.Using the new iSCSI target application pack, the internal disk drives of multiple Windows Storage Servers can be aggregated into a large iSCSI storage pool.

o Windows IIS Server 2003
Multiple IIS web servers can be clustered into a shared Melio file system on external SAN storage, providing scalability and high availability without the need for replication services. Dynamic content is immediately available to all servers in the web farm.

o SQL Server and Exchange Server
Shared access to very large storage volumes and dynamic reassignment of storage volumes improves options for maintaining availability and for moving data stores among server platforms to match hardware performance with dynamic processing requirements.

o Microsoft Clustering Services
Microsoft Clustering Services is fully supported by Sanbolic’s Melio FS and LaScala volume manager. Sanbolic’s software enables a volume to be a shared across multiple servers and allows administrators to create multiple resources within it, enabling active-active n+1 clusters.

o Microsoft SoftGrid
Create a scalable high availability SAN backend for Microsoft SoftGrid application streaming or Ardence-based OS streaming where central management of applications and OS images has been implemented, and/or in environments where persistent storage on the clients is not desired.

o Windows Virtual Server 2005 R2
Enable dynamic migration of virtual machine state across physical hosts and improved storage management for virtual machines using iSCSI storage for application data volumes on iSCSI storage.

o Windows Server 2003 Media Services/Microsoft IPTV Platform
Enable clusters of streaming servers to share a single content library for scalability. A large content library can be striped across a large number of spindles in high availability storage and provide the flexibility to have multiple streaming servers accessing the same copy of content without replication.

o Windows Server 2003 Compute Cluster Edition
High performance shared storage access for I/O intensive compute clusters. Clusters of up to 256 servers can have concurrent read and write access to shared data using block storage connections.
o Windows XP/Vista Solutions for SAN-Connected WorkstationsConcurrent shared read and write access to large content or engineering files improves collaborative work processes and eliminates the need to try and copy or move very large files among workstations. Central or remote assignment of storage volumes residing on SAN storage improves workflow management for video, graphics, and engineering workstations.
